WordPress hosting backups explained

A backup is useful only if it contains what you need, is retained long enough, survives the incident that damaged production, and can actually be restored. “Daily backups included” is therefore the start of the evaluation, not the end.

Check four things

Frequency: how much data could you lose between backups? Retention: how far back can you restore? Isolation: is there a copy outside the production failure domain? Restore process: can you restore the whole site or selected components, and how long does it take?

Dynamic sites need tighter recovery thinking

A store receiving orders throughout the day can lose meaningful data between daily snapshots. Match recovery objectives to the business impact of lost transactions or user activity.

Host backups are not your only copy

For important sites, maintain an independent backup strategy so a billing dispute, account compromise or provider-wide issue does not leave every recovery copy in one place.

Backups are one of the operational features to compare when evaluating managed WordPress hosting.
